If you’re familiar only with his early, very funny stand-up stuff or his later, lamer movies, this performance by the late Richard Pryor in a rare dramatic role may come as some surprise. Taxi Driver writer Paul Schrader‘s 1978 directorial debut is a dark, realistic crime drama with Pryor, Yaphet Kotto and Harvey Keitel as a trio of shopfloor workers at a Detroit automobile plant who are so pissed off at being stiffed by bosses and their union alike that they decide to rob the union’s HQ.

It’s back on screen, with an introduction by writer and critic Adam Murray, as part of Cinema Rediscovered in homage to the late Yaphet Kotto, who died in March at the age of 81. Go here for tickets.
