A worthy realist melodrama from 1947, with Googie Withers as a sheep breeder who defies social convention to run her own farm and protect her spoiled sister (Jean Kent) – spurning three suitors in the process. It’s beautifully shot on Kent’s Romney Marshes by the great cinematographer Douglas Slocombe and is screened with an introduction by writer and broadcaster Matthew Sweet as part of the Slocombe at Ealing strand of Cinema Rediscovered.
