Running Time
126 mins

This long-gestating drama once had Straight Outta Compton‘s F. Gary Gray attached to direct, but finally reached the screen with Spike Lee’s former student Shaka King at the helm. The powerful true story of the betrayal of Illinois Black Panther chairman Fred Hampton (Daniel Kaluuya) by FBI informant William O’Neal (Lakeith Stanfield), Judas and the Black Messiah was acclaimed by the Hollywood Reporter as “a scalding account of oppression and revolution, coercion and betrayal, rendered more shocking by the undiminished currency of its themes.”

The film was nominated for six Oscars, winning Best Supporting Actor (a well-deserved Kaluuya, receiving his first Academy Award, Get Out having bagged him a Best Actor nomination in 2018) and Best Original Song.
