The Last Laugh

Director
F.W. Murnau
Certificate
U
Running Time
77 mins

One of German silent cinema’s greatest achievements, which was directed by the great F.W. Murnau between Nosferatu and Sunrise. It’s the simple tale of an elderly hotel doorman who’s demoted to toilet attendant, charting the misery of his loss of status before his fortunes are reversed again.

The Cube’s screening includes live piano accompaniment by John Sweeney and a special intro by Dr Peter Walsh of South West Silents. It’s the first in a series of events in collaboration with Bristol Festival of Ideas, South West Silents, Cube Cinema, Curzon Cinema and Arts and Watershed celebrating the films of the Weimar Republic as well as the ‘City and Silent Film’. These two seasons run through September, October and November 2019 as part of the Festival of the Future City 2019.
