Film

Une Femme Douce

Director
Robert Bresson
Certificate
15
Running Time
88 mins

When young Elle (Dominique Sanda) marries pawnbroker Luc (Guy Frangin), she finds that they are thoroughly incompatible. At first, she toys with the idea of murdering him, but then kills herself instead. Transposing a Dostoevsky story to Paris, Robert Bresson‘s first film to be shot in colour scrupulously avoids psychology as it unfolds in flashback.

This re-releasereceived its UK premiere in Bristol at the recent Cinema Rediscovered festival.
