Gabriele Salvatores, who won an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film with Mediterraneo, makes his debut at La Scala to stage this 200th anniversary production of Rossini’s opera relating the tale of the servant Ninetta, who’s wrongly accused of theft. The conductor is Riccardo Chailly.

A Clockwork Orange enthusiasts should recognise this one, as Kubrick’s masterpiece not only contains more Rossini than Ludwig Van but also includes an abridged Thieving Magpie in addition to the William Tell Overture sequence that everybody remembers.
