British Museum Presents: Hokusai

Running Time
90 mins

Filmed in Japan, the US and the UK, this new film complementing the British Museum’s Hokusai: Beyond the Wave exhibition is billed as the first UK documentary about Japan’s greatest artist. Hokusai influenced Monet, Van Gogh and other impressionists, is the father of manga and – it says here – is the only artist with his own emoji.

It’s introduced by Andrew Graham-Dixon, with contributions from David Hockney, Grayson Perry and Maggi Hambling.  Pioneering 8K Ultra HD video technology means that you get to see the artist’s work in unprecedented detail.
