Metropolitan Opera Live: Die Walkure

Certificate
12A
Running Time
320 mins

How would Wagner fare in the age of offence-taking, Twitterstorm witch-hunting and no-platforming? Er, none too well, one imagines. One of the earliest ‘love the art, hate the creator’ artists, the notorious antisemite’s Ring Cycle remains his crowning achievement. This second of its four works is probably the most familiar to non-opera enthusiasts, containing as it does the stirring The Ride of the Valkyries.

Soprano Christine Goerke makes her Met role debut as Brünnhilde in Robert Lepage‘s production, which faithfully presents every detail of Wagner’s libretto.
