National Theatre Encore: The Lehman Trilogy

Director
Sam Mendes
Certificate
12A
Running Time
240 mins

On a cold September morning in 1844 a young man from Bavaria stands on a New York dockside. Dreaming of a new life in the new world. He is joined by his two brothers and an American epic begins. 163 years later, the firm they establish – Lehman Brothers – spectacularly collapses into bankruptcy, and triggers the largest financial crisis in history.

Simon Russell Beale, Ben Miles and Adam Godley star in Oscar-winning American Beauty and Skyfall director Sam Mendes‘s epic yet intimate production of Stefano Massini‘s five-time Olivier Award nominated play tracing the history of Western capitalism, which boasts striking set design by Es Devlin. “Mendes is on the money with astonishing saga,” enthused The Guardian.
