Royal Opera House Live: Carmen

Certificate
12A
Running Time
210 mins

You know the story: naïve young soldier Don Jose gets the hots for fiery gypsy temptress Carmen. Such is his lust that he deserts the army and abandons his childhood sweetheart. Alas, the fickle hottie promptly falls for dashing toreador Escamillo. Oh dear. This really isn’t going to end well, is it?

Originally created for the Frankfurt Opera, Australian director Barrie Kosky‘s highly physical makeover of Bizet’s lusty staple dispenses with tradition and incorporates music composed for the opera but now rarely heard.

Broadcast live to Millennium Square from Covent Garden, this is the second in a trio of free outdoor screenings for 2019 in the annual BP Big Screens season. Pre-screening events start at 6:30pm and the screening itself commences at 7pm. Limited deckchair seating will be available on a first come, first served basis, and you’re invited to bring a picnic.
