Royal Opera House Encore: The Magic Flute

Certificate
12A
Running Time
190 mins

A hunky prince, a hot princess, a spiritual quest, a sorcerer, lashings of freemasonry and a good few larfs. What’s not to love about Mozart’s two-act panto-style opera, which also boats its fair share of top tunes? Prince Tamino promises the Queen of the Night that he will rescue her daughter Pamina from the enchanter Sarastro. So he sets off accompanied by bird-catcher Papageno, as you do, only to find that Sarastro is a wise and decent chap. Ordeals ensue, love wins the day, the end.

Julia Jones conducts this latest revival of David McVicar‘s enduring production, whose cast includes Roderick Williams as Papageno.
