Minuscule: Valley of the Lost Ants

Director
Thomas Szabo, Helene Giraud
Certificate
U
Running Time
87 mins

This 2013 French-Belgian animation won the Cesar Award for Best Animated Film but only got a very belated UK release exclusively at Vue cinemas a year ago. A cut above those revoiced Euro animations that infest our cinemas on a regular basis, this wordless fable sets its CGI insecty cast against real-life backgrounds to tell the tale of a plucky ladybird who befriends a black ant and helps defend his anthill against a U-rated brutal assault by evil red ants. It’s probably not intended as a political allegory.

It’s back on screen in the ‘shed’s summer Bugs on Film season.
