Raya and the Last Dragon

Director
Don Hall, Carlos López Estrada
Certificate
PG
Running Time
107 mins

In the fantasy world of Kumandra, all the dragons sacrificed themselves to save humanity. Which was nice of them. Five hundred years on, the evil that did for the scaly, fire-breathing beasts returns and it’s up to a lone warrior, Raya, to track down the last surviving dragon and save everybody.

This Disney animation boasts all the familiar uplifting touchy-feely girl power themes alongside a welcome vein of buddy comedy, with a fine voice cast led by Kelly Marie Tran and Awkwafina (as Sisu the dragon). Reviews have been generally positive, with a little grumbling about the lack of recognisably Southeast Asian representation in the cast (the film is set in a fictional fantasy version of Southeast Asia).
