If you’re old enough, or care enough, you may recall that the 1990s Mortal Kombat video game franchise gave rise to a brace of crappy feature films – Mortal Kombat and Mortal Kombat: Annihilation – only the first of which was a box office success. Little wonder it’s taken so long for Warners to decide to dust it down and ‘reboot’ it for a new generation.

This latest outburst of martial arts whupass is produced by James Wan, co-creator of the Saw and Insidious franchises. As with the previous Mortal Kombat flicks, the makeover has not been popular among critics. Many did note, however, that fans should enjoy the lashings of violence.
