James Whale‘s original, genuinely iconic 1931 interpretation of Mary Shelley’s gothic novel, with Boris Karloff establishing the look of the monster that would inspire all those who followed in his gallumphing footsteps. Along with Tod Browning’s Dracula, it also kick-started Universal’s lucrative monster franchise.

It’s back on screen in the Watershed’s Frankenstein 200 June brunch season marking the 200th anniversary of publication of Mary Shelley’s masterpiece.
