125 mins

A male wish-fulfilment romcom from Snatched and Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates director Jonathan Levine, Long Shot has attracted criticism for its high-concept, old-school chauvinism. But even detractors have had to concede that it’s also very funny.

Seth Rogan is back in familiar schlubby stoner loser mode as washed-up muck-raking hack Fred Flarsky, who falls for his former babysitter, Charlotte Field (Charlize Theron). Trouble is, she’s now a high-achiever who’s way out of his league and is about to run for President. Fortunately, her starchy image needs some humanising, so Fred is taken on as her speechwriter and teaches her how to lighten up, let her hair down, and so on.
