With a residency at St George’s Bristol, Chineke! Orchestra are Europe’s first majority Black and Minority Ethnic orchestra.

Here they premiere a new piece by composer James Wilson inspired by the life of local hero Dr Paul Stephenson, best known for his leadership of the Bristol Bus Boycott. The programme also features music by Mendelssohn, Holst, Britten and Ligeti.

The St George’s concert will be followed on Saturday, May 18 by a free performance of Wilson’s piece at the Malcolm X Centre. This falls on the eve of Malcolm X Day, which celebrates the anniversary of the U.S civil rights leader’s birth.
