Maximo Park’s forthcoming album Risk To Exist is a collection of irresistible pop songs about anger, hope, resistance and, above all, empathy. The angular title track Risk To Exist was initially written by the band in response to the Foreign Office’s shocking decision in 2014 to stop supporting search-and-rescue operations in the Mediterranean because, it claimed, saving lives encouraged illegal immigration. After learning about MOAS’ work later that same year, the seeds were sown for a song that perfectly encapsulates the band’s sonically ambitious, socially conscious pop.
