Singer-songwriter Yola Carter grew up in Portishead, just outside of Bristol. Early on Yola gained a reputation as a singer and a writer, performing as support to acts from Basement Jaxx to James Brown. and playing alongside Solomon Burke, Dr John, Carlene Carter, Candi Staton and Eddie Floyd and The Stax Band. She is the former lead singer of country-soul / roots outfit Phantom Limb.
