“How would anyone even know there was a story to tell, if I said nothing? So I passed it on, the story, everything that happened, all about us Gas Girls”. Community theatre company acta reprise this riveting and moving story about Bristol women munitions workers in World War 1.

First performed in 2014 to commemorate the centenary of the start of WW1, the show sold out at venues across Bristol. It now returns for 2017 on a tour across the south-west.

In 1918, Avonmouth was the centre of Britain’s chemical warfare industry, with two factories making and filling shells with deadly mustard gas, employing hundreds of local women and girls. There were hundreds of accidents, nearly 3,000 casualties, and several deaths.
