Bristol Shakespeare Festival: Shakespeare’s Henry VIII
- Artists
- Usk Castle Players, Shakespeare
A new play, Henry VII, apparently by Shakespeare, has just been discovered in a dusty corner of an abandoned building, and the Usk Castle Players are determined to bring it to life.
It begins with Henry’s victory at the Battle of Bosworth and ends with the accession of the young Henry VIII. It portrays Henry as successful in protecting his throne, in raising money and avoiding war. However, he becomes depressed by the deaths of his eldest son, Prince Arthur and his wife, Elizabeth of York and is increasingly avaricious. Is the play any good? It is for you to judge!
