Abigail’s Party
- Artists
- Schoolhouse Productions, Mike Leigh
“It’s been 40 years since Mike Leigh first introduced the bombastic Beverley and her overwrought husband Lawrence to the world, bringing with them a night of car-crash comedy and Demis Roussos’ crooning that has stood the test of time.
“Beverley and Lawrence host an informal drinks gathering, while their neighbour, Sue’s daughter Abigail, is having a rowdy party down the road. As well as Sue, they’ve also invited Tony and Angie, who are new to the neighbourhood.
“What starts as an uncomfortable evening of forced fun spirals out of control as Beverley’s hosting style becomes increasingly aggressive. She schmoozes, slow-dances and drinks her way to a point of pure, delicious chaos – and by the close, everybody’s asking – what did happen at Abigail’s Party?
