First instalment in a week of performances by Welsh National Opera at the Hippodrome.
Tatyana is a young country girl, convinced that the dashing Onegin is the man of her dreams. When she declares her devotion to him via a love letter, he rejects and humiliates her.
Onegin then flirts with Tatyana’s older, engaged sister setting off a tragic chain of events – a tale of how unrequited love and the ways of high society can catastrophically collide.
is needed now More than ever
Tchaikovsky’s best-loved opera, is based on the Alexander Pushkin’s novel by the same name. Simple and classic countryside settings are contrasted with beautiful ballroom scenes and rich costumes reflecting high society at the time.
This poignant story showcases the battle between the yearnings of the heart and social convention, all through a score of wonderfully romantic choruses and evocative arias.
Sung in Russian, with English and Welsh surtitles.
7pm, £14.90-£51.90. For more info, visit www.atgtickets.com/shows/wno-eugene-onegin/bristol-hippodrome
