Bristol Shakespeare Festival: Shakespeare’s Worst
- Artists
- Ed Viney, Mike Reiss
A highlight of this year’s Bristol Shakespeare Festival is this, BSF’s second ever in-house production – and a corker it looks, too. Written by multi-Emmy-award-winning writer and Simpsons showrunner Mike Reiss and internationally renowned scholar and performer Nick Newlin, Shakespeare’s Worst makes its international debut at the newly-designated Southville Playhouse, a.k.a. the former Methodist Church on Stackpool Road, with acclaimed Bristol director Ed Viney at the helm.
Somewhere, in a small-town theatre, a group of actors are performing The Two Gentlemen of Verona (often cited as Shakespeare’s worst play, it says here. There are worse worsts to be…), but one of the cast members isn’t happy. His career is going nowhere, he’s sick of the show – and he wants out.
8pm plus Sat 2.30pm, £13/£11 concs. For more info, visit http://www.bristolshakespearefestival.org.uk/events/sw-17/
