- Helen Chadwick Song Theatre
“Truth is a spellbinding fusion of song and choreography which uses real testimonies collected from all over the world.
“Some are brutal, some hilarious but all are presented in a fresh and exhilarating style that truly pushes the idea of what theatre could be.
“This beautiful and thought-provoking song theatre show explores the once-simple notion of Truth in our messy modern age of fake news.
is needed now More than ever
“How does telling the truth or lying shape our lives? What is the impact of speaking the truth on a family, a person, a country? Does the truth exist?
“Pierces the heart” Evening Standard on Dalston Songs
“As ever, straight to the heart and beautifully composed and constructed” Alison Duthie, arts programmer, on War Correspondents
Helen Chadwick has been commissioned to create song theatre performances for the Royal Opera House and Salisbury and Greenwich Festivals. She has composed for the BBC, the National Theatre and the RSC.
She joins forces with Olivier award winning and Tony nominated Steven Hoggett (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, The Curious Incident of The Dog In The Night-time) and co-founder of Frantic Assembly. Together they work with personal stories collected from individuals all over the world – from Hackney to Norway and from Manchester to Mexico.
“These stories describe a moment when someone told a truth or a lie, and the impact of doing so on their life; testimonies that are by turns devastating, hilarious and touching. The vocal and gestural world created by performers Victoria Couper, Krystian Godlewski, Liz Kettle and Helen Chadwick charges the power of the material with emotion and beauty, inviting us to reflect on our own truth and lies.”
Fri June 1, Westbury on Trym Village Hall, 8pm. £8-£15 (optional pre-show singing workshop 5-6.30pm).
