Can You Hear Me Now

Date: Friday, Nov 24 2017 - Saturday, Nov 25 2017
Venue: The Station
Artists
Creative Youth Network, MAYK

MAYK presents this intercultural, live-streamed performance experienced simultaneously in Bristol, Kampala (Uganda) and Kigali (Rwanda), created by Caroline Williams with three young casts in Bristol, Kigali and Kampala.

“The world as we know it has exploded with digital connectivity. Can you imagine if Britain was denied access to Facebook, Twitter and WhatsApp during the recent election? What would Bristol feel like if only 19% of its residents had access to the internet? How would you feel about communicating with your friends without Instagram and Snapchat?

“A Ugandan teenager living in Kampala would be able to tell you exactly how these things feel.

“Using specially developed digital technology to create a window to each performance space, young performers in Bristol, Kampala and Kigali will work together to explore their relationship with the internet.

“Does it do enough for the young people living in these very different cities? What messages will they send to each other, and what will get lost, or stuck in-between?

“This is your invitation to join us as we connect across the globe. Bring your phone, and be prepared to lose connection.”
