My Top 10: Krankbrother

By Adam Burrows  Wednesday Feb 18, 2015

From East End street parties to raves on yachts, mountains and in jungle temples, Krankbrother have had an amazing few years. This month the London-based DJ and promotions team bring their brand of hedonism to Motion with a house and techno lineup to die for. The guest headliner is Panoramabar and Robert Johnson resident Gerd Janson, who is joined by NYC dub-house master Levon Vincent and Berlin royalty Margaret Dygas and Move D.  Krankbrother siblings Danny and Kieran Clancy sent us ten of their all-time favourite tracks, which vary from punk to jazz via krautrock and disco.

Can – Vitamin C
“Amazing rhythm section….gets us from the go.”

The Cramps – New Kind of Kick
“Garage rock at finest. When we first heard The Cramps as teenagers our worlds exploded.”

Jackie Moore – This Time Baby
“The great Nile Rodgers produced this. Gets into a lot of our sets.”

Eddie Hooper – Tomorrow’s Sun
“Psychedelic with a groove. Never fails to lift your mood.”

William Onyeabor – Fantastic Man
“If you haven’t come across William Onyeabor you need to. Joyous and musically brilliant. How he wrote this music in Nigeria back then is a mystery.”

Lee Morgan – Candy
One of our all-time favourite jazz records.”

The Modern Lovers – Roadrunner
“One of the greatest bands never to make the big time but a major influence on so many bands to follow. Boston attitude with misfit lyrics from Jonathan Richman – it just works.”

Miles Davis – Blue In Green
“A masterclass in improvisation from one of the greatest albums we’ve ever heard.”

Lee Hazelwood & Nancy Sinatra – Some Velvet Morning
“Sleazy lounge music, a country twang and a weird arrangement make this a haunting masterpiece.”

KC and the Sunshine Band – Give it Up
“Wedding music, given…but damn does it make you feel good.”

Krankbrother are at Motion on Friday, February 20. For more information visit www.motion.com
