Floating walkway to link Temple Quay to arena
A floating boardwalk could soon link Temple Quay to the future site of Bristol Arena.
The proposed Harbour Walkway will provide a pontoon boardwalk from the ferry landing stage to ‘Arena Island’ wide enough to accommodate pedestrians and cyclists.
The route will pass under the railway viaduct and continue to Totterdown Basin, along a corridor that is planned to be redeveloped with cafes, offices and flats built over the next decade.

Changes are also planned for Cattle Market Road, which could become one-way eastbound for traffic, easing congestion at the Bath Road junction, while creating space for a wide than usual pavement and a segregated two-way cycle path.
The landscape along the New Cut will also be improved with new walks and planting of small wildflower meadows which the council ambitiously predict will become spaces to enjoy views to Arena Island.
Assistant mayor for place Mark Bradshaw said: “The streets and spaces around Bristol Temple Quarter Enterprise Zone need to be improved to meet the needs of the growing number of people who will live and work here and visit the area.
“With the arrival of the Bristol Arena in 2017, improved cycle and pedestrian routes to the arena site and good links to the station are vital to encourage visitors to travel to the venue sustainably.
“We want moving around Temple Quarter to be an easy and pleasant experience and for streets and spaces to be safe, welcoming and attractive.”
There will be a drop in session where members of the project team will be on hand to discuss the proposals on March 26, from 5.30pm to 8.30pm at 100 Temple Street.
