South Bristol link road open to traffic
The new £45m South Bristol link road is now open to traffic
The road joins the A370 to the A38 and will be part of the Metrobus route, running from Hengrove to the Long Ashton bypass.
The road was opened by Andrew Jones MP, parliamentary under secretary of state at Department for Transport, councillor Elfan Ap Rees and councillor Mark Bradshaw.

The road, with links to the A38 for Bristol Airport and the A370 to Weston-super-Mare, is intended to take traffic away from residential roads. TravelWest said the scheme will provide “motorists with an alternative route to the A370 and A38”.
“Traffic is expected to dramatically reduce on the roads which currently link the residential areas of South Bristol to Winterstoke Road and to the city centre via Bedminster. These roads include Whitchurch Road, Bishopsworth Road, South Liberty Lane, Kings Head Lane and Highridge Green.”
However, Paul Williams, from property consultancy Bruton Knowles, told Bristol24/7 that: “The current road works will bring South Bristol back up to speed – but our concern is that the new link road will not have the capacity to cope with the new housing and increasing populations which will be expecting to enter the city at Hicks Gate.
As one road opens another closes thought as road works start on Hartcliffe Way, which will be one way from Monday night until November.
