My Bristol Favourites: Lucie Pemberton
Lucie Pemberton is marketing manager of Christmas at the Spiegeltent, which returns to Bristol for its fifth annual season from November 25 to December 31.
“The Spiegeltent has had a great response from the people of Bristol and we’re ready for another exciting season,” says Lucie.
“This year we have 19 events running over six weeks so there’s no let up. It’s certainly a hectic time of year in our household, but the kids love it too because they get to go to all the kids discos, family theatre and Santa’s grotto.
is needed now More than ever
“I’ve lived in Bristol since I was a kid, bar five years at uni in London. I love it and can’t see myself living anywhere else now.”
Here are Lucie’s top-five Bristol favourites:
Nights out at Christmas at the Spiegeltent
“I don’t go out much these days but in December I need a full time sitter, there’s so much happening in the Spiegeltent. Even though I don’t need to be there in the evenings I go a lot, it’s the fruits of our labours and we’ve been building up to it all year. Plus nights out that involve dressing up, good tunes, live performance & dancing are totally my cup of tea!”
Coffee from Alex Does Coffee
“Our offices are based in Old Market now so we’ve got some great café’s on our doorstep including No. 25a and the Old Market Assembly. Alex Does Coffee serves Extract Coffee a few doors up and sorts out our daily mid-morning caffeine fix. Alex likes a natter too, which is always nice!”
Organic fruit and veg from Matter Wholefoods
“I’ve known John for years and he’s got a great thing going at Matter with his shop and gym space on Greenbank Road that hosts loads of classes and community events. He delivers a box to us every week so I know my family are getting some proper goodness inside them.”
Dinner in Bell’s Diner

“I grew up in Montpelier and walked past Bell’s Diner every day for years on my way to school. Then in my 20s I got a job there waitressing when Chris Wicks owned it. They were fun times. I love what the new owners have done so now I like to go and relax, enjoy delicious food and great wine in a laid back cosy environment. I’m definitely getting old!”
Walking in Oldbury Court
“Catch Oldbury Court on a sunny clear autumn day and it’s beautiful, like being at an arboretum. The colours are lush and there are loads of trees for the kids to climb, streams to hop, and woods to explore. I’m just sorry the cafe has closed for winter; another council service cut back. It used to be a hub for dog walkers and after-school kids. But it’s sill a lovely place to walk.”
