Brisfest to return with citywide event
Brisfest will return next month with an innovative new citywide event featuring a unique ticketing format.
Entitled :soundscape, it will showcase some of Bristol’s best acts performing in 15 independent music venues throughout the city centre on Saturday, July 30.
“It’s about bringing Bristol music to the forefront of audience attention,” says Poppy Stephenson, chair of Bristol Festival Community Group, the charity which runs Brisfest and Rave on Avon.
is needed now More than ever
“Brisfest is the showcase of our future stars, of the hottest new acts from the region, ones to watch across all genres. From rock bands to reggae, hip hop to hardcore, folk to funk there’s a compilation of styles being produced here; it’s about exploring our current Bristol sounds.”
Throughout the day, :soundscape will centre around the Station and Island, with outdoor stages, walkabouts and market stalls suitable for all ages. In the evening, festival-goers will be able to use their wristbands to enter several top party spots in Bristol.
Also as a part of Brisfest, Bristol24/7 is programming the main Best of Bristol stage in the courtyard outside The Station.
Tickets will be sold on a pay what you decide basis, starting from £10, and half the profits will be shared among the artists.
The Brisfest team call this ticketing system – created to support local musicians – AAA ticketing. The artists will also be paid for performing, and the remaining profits will go towards training volunteers and providing routes to full-time employment.
“It’s a new experiment in ticketing, a very left-field way of structuring an event and fairly distributing proceeds back to artists… and feels very Bristol,” says Stephenson.
“We’re really excited about it because it will directly benefit the creative people who make our city such a vibrant community.”
The :soundscape line-up will be announced over the coming months.
