Cross-party support for Colston Hall plans
Bristol’s mayor and four party leaders have pledged their support for the Colston Hall’s 45k for 45m campaign.
The campaign is calling on 45,000 people to support the venue’s ambitious £45m transformation which will include remodelling the main auditorium, redeveloping the second hall into a versatile venue, opening up the cellars for the first time in 100 years for educational and workshop space, and restoring the frontage to its Victorian magnificence.
The aim of the campaign is to demonstrate wholehearted support for the redevelopment. This will make the case for investment from the Government, private donors and other sources to achieve the target.
is needed now More than ever
Louise Mitchell, chief executive of Bristol Music Trust, said: “Bristol City Council were the first to financially contribute to our transformation. Following their generous commitment of £10m at the start of the year, I am delighted to say that the council’s political leaders are also our first political figures to publically support our 45k for 45m campaign.
“It is great to see them get behind our ambitious project, which will directly impact on tens of thousands of people from across the city and beyond.”
Mayor George Ferguson said: “It is a particularly exciting time for music and performing arts in Bristol, with both the transformation of Colston Hall and the new Bristol Arena plans progressing. Colston Hall’s redevelopment will help to reinforce the city’s position as the UK’s capital of music and set the benchmark across the country for music education. I urge everyone in Bristol to come on board and show their support to ensure the Hall gets every penny it needs to meet its ambitious plans.”
