New clues in search for missing DJ Derek
Fresh CCTV shows DJ Derek taking an unexpected route moments after he was last seen on Corn Street, friends and family have revealed.
The 73-year-old DJ is now known to have headed towards the Bristol Royal Infirmary, instead of his usual path to the number five bus to his home in St Paul’s
Family and friends released new details as they split into groups across Bristol to search for the missing DJ.
About 12 people met outside the Pranj’s, next to the Commercial Rooms in Corn Street, where the DJ was last seen on July 10.
Police told the family that the most recent CCTV searches have found Derek was walking past the BRI hospital after leaving the pub at about 11pm.
Jennifer Griffiths, Derek’s niece, said: “That is no-where near the number five bus stop, which is where he was heading.”
“So what was he doing up there? That is the question”.
The search party set off wearing Find DJ Derek T-shirts and carrying posters to look down alleys, in parks and even bins for clues of his whereabouts.
“Find anyone that you can speak to and make people aware that DJ Derek is missing,” said the organiser of the search as he briefed the search party
Aidan Larkin, a friend of Derek for thirteen years and fellow DJ travelled from Oxford in a bid to help the family as he is, “particularly worried” for them.
Larkin said Derek “is a very independent fella and often went away, but would never go for more than five or six days”.
He added: “I just want to see my friend, that’s it – I want my friend back “
Speaking on behalf of the whole family, Derek’s niece Jennifer told Bristol24/7 that she was “absolutely amazed by the amount of people that turned out to help us today”.
She added: “Social media has been fantastic. My Twitter has been going absolutely crazy with responses and I am truly touched by everybody.
“I urge people to keep spreading the word and putting up posters and sharing things online. That would be fantastic.”
Jennifer added that she wants to “give the police a few more days to deal with enquiries.”
Then her “plan of action” is to “go down by the Avon Gorge and do a walk along there,” she said.
“Although it’s worst case scenario, you never know. Anything could have happened, I just wanted to cover as much of Bristol as I can.”
