Uber detour to Bristol costs student £467.52

By Norberto Fernandez Soriano  Tuesday Feb 28, 2017

An unfortunate Londoner travelled via Bristol, rather than Brixton, after a night out on the tiles, racking up a fare of more than £400.

Aaron Wray called an Uber to make his way back to his home in London, a journey that should only have taken around 20 minutes.

The 18-year-old computer science student mistakenly entered his destination address as Bristol, and then fell asleep in the back of the cab. At around 6am, once they realised they had made a mistake, the driver turned around and he ended up back in London more than five hours later.

A spokesperson for Uber told Bristol 24/7: “Our systems show the rider set an address in Bristol as their destination. When they arrived and it became clear this was an error, the driver returned to London to drop them off in Croydon. This was clearly an unfortunate mistake, so as a gesture of goodwill we would like to offer the rider a refund.”
