My Bristol Favourites: Kerry Day
Printmaker and mixed media artist Kerry Day is one of the artists exhibiting at The Other Art Fair which returns to the Arnolfini from July 22-24. Kerry trained at Bath Spa University and now lives and works in Bristol. She completed an MA in Mutli Disciplinary Printmaking at UWE in 2011 and is now works from her studio in Hamilton House on Stokes Croft.
Her current body of work is about the plants that she shares her home and studio with, drawn to their architectural shapes and contours.
is needed now More than ever
Here are Kerry’s top-five Bristol favourites:
Hamilton House
“My studio is based in Hamilton House and it’s where I spend most of my time. It’s a vibrant and eccentric place to work. Lots going on, arts, music, wellbeing and the in-house shop which stocks creations from the tenants. I love being here, though sometimes it can be slightly annoying trying to get past people taking photos of the Bansky bear mural.”
Bristol Folk House
“Bristol Folk House off Park Street is a little gem of a place. I teach linoprinting here and also have become a student learning to throw in pottery. They also have a great cafe too.”
Gloucester Road
“I often pop here to do my shopping or to have a cuppa. A great selection of independent shops you wouldn’t find elsewhere.”
University of Bristol Botanic Garden
“The Botanic Garden is somewhere I need to go more often. When I am there it’s very peaceful and relaxing place to be. And not surprisingly I love the Cacti in the greenhouses, a great inspiration for my linocuts.”
My flat, just off Jamaica Street
“Sometimes I just need to be by myself and away from the busyness of a city. I like potting about at home looking after my plants, I have rather a lot of them and just being lazy for a while.”
