‘There’s no better time to start exercising than now’
We all know the feeling. It’s colder, darker and rainier and there is nothing less tempting than getting out of bed to go and do a workout.
But rather than putting off your exercise plans until January, I reckon it might be worth lacing up your trainers now – for both your health and your happiness.
The NHS suggests that regular exercise can help to bolster our immune systems, keeping those winter colds at bay allowing you to fully enjoy the festive season (without a tissue in hand!).
is needed now More than ever
Research also shows that our mental wellbeing also experiences positive effects thanks to increased endorphins, improved self-esteem and a boost of energy post-workout that helps us to get through the rest of the day – whatever the Bristol weather throws at us.

The key to nailing that regular exercise habit and enjoying all these benefits is finding a routine that works for you. I find that self-motivating is especially challenging at this time of year, so classes are a good way to overcome that.

Many class workouts are between 45 and 60 minutes long – that’s just three per cent of your day – and with classes running morning, lunchtime and evening, it’s easy to fit them into your schedule.
The best part? No preparation or planning is required. Swap your PJs or work clothes for your active wear and arrive at the start of class, then your trainer will do the rest, telling you what to do and keeping you motivated all the way through the workout.
If you’re easing your way back into fitness, remember that there’s no need to rush to the finish line. Start small, with one or two workouts a week, and get settled into the habit before you increase your activity levels.
Once you’ve gotten into your groove, you’ll be ahead of the fitness game as the new year approaches, allowing you to relax and enjoy the festive period, before setting some new goals come January. There’s no better time to start than now!
