Bristol’s sweet tooth
A new crêperie opening soon on Queen’s Road in Clifton is just the latest business to satisfy Bristol’s sweet tooth.
Crêpeaffaire will offer freshly prepared sweet or savoury crêpes in what used to be a Caffe Gusto.
The business was founded in 2004 and now has nine locations across the UK including in Cardiff’s St David’s Centre, and one cafe in Germany, with plans to expand soon to Amsterdam and Kuwait.
is needed now More than ever
Also due to open soon just a few hundred yards away down Park Street is Kaspa’s Desserts. Another chain that is rapidly expanding, there are currently seven franchises also including a branch in Cardiff, and others in locations including Swindon and Watford.
This all follows hot on the heels of Sundaes Gelato on Baldwin Street, which has become the young teenager hangout of choice since opening at the end of last year.
For something a little bit classier, Curtis & Bell on North Street offers authentic French patisserie made by Rob Curtis.
The former Byzantium head chef starts work every day at 3am in order to bring a little taste of Paris to this corner of Bedminster.
Also making some particularly perfect patisserie is Tamarind Galliford of Ahh Toots in St Nick’s Market. The former head baker at Papadeli makes exquisite cakes that all rest decoratively on cook books and wooden crates.
Puddings meanwhile are to the fore of restaurant No Man’s Grace on Chandos Road in Redland, where for those of a sweet tooth the desserts – all matched with a dessert wine – can be the main course.
Try such delights as the a toasted rice crème brulee with salt caramel and apple sorbet, or a chocolate pave with pistachio and olive oil and milk stout ice cream.
